I can't ship toiletries home so I have an array of lotions and potions that I'm working my way through, some of which I'd forgotten I even had as they had been pushed to the back of the bathroom cupboards. We are down to the last of a few things and I'm refusing to buy more even if we end up using things we don't really like. Waste not, want not and all that. But I do hate wasting perfectly nice toiletries. It's amazing how much stuff you just put in your shopping trolley 'incase I need it' to only do the same thing a few weeks later because you can't remember if you actually did replace it.
The thing is that not only am I living out of my case but we are almost camping out in our villa. More glamping than camping I know as we will have our bathrooms and the kitchen, the pool and garden. Once the removal men have been and gone I can return my home into some semblance of order. Enough for us to happily function within. I've spent this last week separating everything into 'do not pack' cupboards and the 'to pack' cupboards. I've sorted out all my kitchenware and utensils so we can still cook and eat at home. Bearing in mind that the 'do not pack' things will be left here when DickyB leaves. The great thing about the packers over here is that they are really efficient. Too efficient. You hear stories of people unpacking only to find that the kitchen waste bin was bubble wrapped and packaged along with the debris that resides within. Lovely, not. So, I've been trying to second guess everything that might get wrapped that I will need. Labels everywhere saying 'Do NOT Pack'. Again not as easy as it sounds but it's done now. Too late. Fate accomplished.
But my clothes... Seriously, I am worried about this. And I know this makes me sound shallow but we do all love our clothes. We have chosen them in accordance with our style and personality. They are not pulled out of a dressing up box and thrown on in the dark randomly. Even if you're not particularly fashion conscious you still have a relationship with your clothes. I'm sure there will be items that I'm going to think about wearing only to go to my depleted wardrobe and think "dammit. I sent that with the packers." In the grand scale of life though I shall survive. As I've said before 'black is the new black' and grey becomes white. Classics that can mix and match easily, that can be dressed up or down for any unexpected occasion that Dubai might throw at me.
And I will miss my reasonably extensive wardrobe, although I'm aware many of my friends have more clothes crammed into their wardrobes and their shoe collection is mightier than mine, but I shall still miss my clothes and shoes. Maybe I do live in my flip flops and converse but that's not to say I don't enjoy the option of wearing a killer heel on occasion! The great thing is though, many of the clothes I've chosen to leave here are items that I don't wear as much, that have spent too long in the dark seclusion of my wardrobe. Clothes that deserve their 15 minutes of fame outside of their dark and dank hiding place; ok scrap the dank, my wardrobe smells like roses and glows from within, either that or my clothes are clean and dry, and the wardrobe has a light...
So please excuse me if you catch me out and about wearing the same outfit more than once over a two week period, excuse me if my clothes are looking needy and worn. This fashionista is living out of her suitcase and it ain't easy keeping up the glamour whilst glamping at home. But I'll give it my best shot. Fashion foot forward.
