As I skimmed through Facebook the other day, the following caught my attention, and as I sat and read it, I started to cry. It summed me up perfectly. It summed up my many dear friends perfectly.
As women we tend to put ourselves last, we never actually manage to switch off from being a mother, wife, daughter, sister, friend. We throw our emotions into everything we do full heartedly and find it difficult to put ourselves first. Yes, I get my nails done and treat myself to new clothes. Sunday is my home spa day. I scrub, mask up, moisturise, and give myself a mini facial. I treat my eyes to anti wrinkle pads, my nose gets a mask too. I wander around the house in my pjs listening to what ever music I fancy. And all the while I'm checking in with Ben, Bex and DickyB. I'm thinking about visiting mum and the things I need to organise for her. I'm working out what to do with the furniture in her home and whether Bex and Dan might need some of it.
I google new homes for Bex and Dan, and jobs available for where they are moving too. I think about how many hours Ben works and worry that he's not resting enough between tours. These are just a few of the things I do whilst I give myself some much needed me time. This doesn't include worrying about how anxious DickyB is with all we have going on at the moment, and trying to finalise everything we need to do here before I leave at the end of the month. My mind never actually switches off to the point I'm having nightmares when I do eventually fall asleep.
And I'm not the only woman in the world doing this, feeling like this. There are women the world over stressing about their loved ones and trying to do the best they can for them. There are women all over the world who cry themselves to sleep only to get up in the morning with a smile on her face and arms ready to hug anyone whom might need it, to wipe away a tear; ready to listen to a friend in need and just be there.
So today I'm cheating with this blog. I am stealing the words from someone else.
WOMAN. . . . . . . . .
When God created woman he was working late on the 6th day.......
An angel came by and asked." Why spend so much time on her?"
The lord answered. "Have you seen all the specifications I have to meet to shape her?
She must function in all kinds of situations. She must be able to embrace several children at the same time. Have a hug that can heal anything from a bruised knee to a broken heart. She must do all this with only two hands; She cures herself when sick and can work 18 hours a day"
The Angel was impressed "Just two hands.....impossible!
And this is the standard model?"
The Angel came closer and touched the woman "But you have made her so soft, Lord".
"She is soft", said the Lord, "But I have made her strong. You can't imagine what she can endure and overcome"
"Can she think?" The Angel asked... The Lord answered. "Not only can she think, she can reason and negotiate"
The Angel touched her cheeks.... "Lord, it seems this creation is leaking! You have put too many burdens on her"
"She is not leaking...it is a tear" The Lord corrected the Angel…
"What's it for?" Asked the Angel..... . The Lord said. "Tears are her way of expressing her grief, her doubts, her love, her loneliness, her suffering and her pride."
This made a big impression on the Angel, "Lord, you are a genius. You thought of everything. A woman is indeed marvellous"
The Lord said."Indeed she is. She has strength that amazes a man. She can handle trouble and carry heavy burdens. She holds happiness, love and opinions. She smiles when she feels like screaming. She sings when she feels like crying, cries when happy and laughs when afraid. She fights for what she believes in. Her love is unconditional. Her heart is broken when a next-of-kin or a friend dies but she finds strength to get on with life"
The Angel asked: So she is a perfect being?
The lord replied: "No. She has just one drawback...
She often forgets what she is worth".
